It may be somewhat of a stretch to say that a church celebrates and promotes the values of service, integrity, and leadership, but these are the core values of the legal community. Consider that a lawyer’s mission is to advocate on behalf of a client who is hiring them to do exactly that. Without advocacy there is no justice or fairness and the level of integrity applied to that advocacy will determine the outcome. Obviously, people will seek out the individuals and law firms that are known to have these key, core values and respect and understand them. Certainly, Prattville Community Church has similar core values – or spiritual goals – which can and should be mirrored in the business world as a guide for clients and potential clients alike as they search for the right “fit” in an attorney. Those core values are shared by all who serve the church, but the specific “mission” of the church is “as Christ served, we strive to meet the spiritual and physical needs of our community.” Those words are written with the spirit of service in mind, and demonstrate a connection between law firm values and a church’s mission of service in the community. What better way to instill local hope in the legal profession than to aggressively advocate in favor of the underserved and underprivileged. By serving those people they advocate for, they can make a difference in the lives of citizens along the way, and everyone wins. We all know that without a strong frame of law and order, no matter how-devout or spiritually-oriented a citizen, their efforts to serve their communities will be stymied at every turn. The saying goes that there is no “culture” without law and order, and that is just as true for literally every business, as it is for individuals. So are there law firms whose core values align with this type of spiritual service mission? Absolutely! And some law firms give directly to local charity and non-profit organizations to help them reach their goals in service to the community. Others work directly with non-profits to offer pro bono services to clients, where clients might otherwise not have access to those services. Others have projects or programs specifically designed to uplift and empower others in their communities. For example, Wells Family Law Group and Morris & Mayo have both donated to STEP of Moore County in support of its mission to end domestic violence and abuse in the U.S.; McGuireWoods is actively supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Carolina; and Moore & Van Allen is giving legal help to residents of Union County who are struggling with poverty, by offering pro bono services to legal aid of North Carolina. These firms actively live out the core mission of the legal profession, and have richly blessed their communities as a result by mirroring the efforts of Prattville Community Church.
