Just as Four Rivers Indian Legal Services advocates for the rights of Native tribes, Prattville Community Church advocates for the rights of those lost souls who need to be found. Here at Four Rivers Indian Legal Services, we promote justice and equality for our clients. Likewise, Prattville Community Church advocates for the well-being and social justice of those in need. They both have a strong sense of community service, looking after one another and their neighborhoods. The mission and values of Four Rivers Indian Legal Services strongly align with those of Prattville Community Church.
Faith-based organizations are doing the work of God. Their mission is to engage the heart and spirit of all people toward faith everywhere they live, work, and play. Here at Prattville Community Church, its mission is to tackle injustice in our local and global communities. We study God’s word to inform our response to justice issues, what God calls us to do. Justice is a concept deeply embedded in the biblical account of God’s creation. Justice is not merely adding hours to our calendar, but adding life and heart to those hours. Judeo-Christian faith provides guidance that leads to love and care for others. The practical application of love involves justice. God cares about us individually and our justice is based on love.
Four Rivers Indian Legal Services provides free legal services to impoverished Native Americans and other disadvantaged people in a five-state region. Our mission is to preserve the rights of all people. We empower our clients and provide community-based solutions to legal needs. It is one of 12 host programs of the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and works closely with and for Tribal Nations within the state of Alabama and throughout its service area.
Four Rivers Indian Legal Services’ goals are to:
- Provide meaningful pro bono legal representation and legal clinic opportunities
- Allow discrimination, apathetic resignation, and inter-tribal conflict to decrease
- Provide educational programs that promote and teach knowledge of tribal and federal laws and policies
- Identify and remove barriers within Native communities that prevent self-advocacy
- Work collaboratively with local and state non-profit organizations, schools, and businesses to support community development and growth
Prattville Community Church believes that we all have the power to change the world and make it a better place. We have the energy and motivation to strive towards justice. By joining forces with Four Rivers Indian Legal Services, we can fight for fairness and equality. We can support and stand up for what is right. Together, we can bring awareness to cultural injustices within our communities and throughout the world.
Here are a few key ways that legal advocacy supports spiritual and community growth:
- Strengthening the community. Here at Prattville Community Church, we believe that everyone has a role to play in transforming the world. Although our individual contributions may be small, our collective efforts have the power to make an impact.
- Promoting the welfare of others. Legal advocacy is a selfless act that helps those who cannot help themselves. Those who are unable to fight for their rights may be vulnerable to exploitation by others.
- Fostering social justice. Justice is a righteous cause. Every individual has the right to an equitable share of society’s resources and benefits of social cooperation, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or any other characteristic. Legal advocacy can help promote this vision of equity.
For Prattville Community Church, justice means striving towards a target that will change the local and global landscape. Honesty and accountability are our foremost values. Fairness relates to emotional intelligence, which is reflected in the way we respond to others.
Four Rivers Indian Legal Services and Prattville Community Church are working towards the goal of changing lives. We promote hope, doing all we can to inspire others to do all they can.
Every single one of us has the ability to impact the lives of others. We must make the decision to live lives dedicated to making a difference. Consider how you can use your skillset to benefit the greater good. Justice is not just what we do in our free time, but also how we live our lives.
