Faith, Community, and Understanding: What Prattville Members Should Know About Legal Blood Draw Procedures

Understanding the Legal Blood Draw Procedure

A member of Prattville Community Church recently asked if I could explain a legal situation that the community is largely unfamiliar with: the legal blood draw procedure. Being an advocate for spreading the word and education on these topics, I obliged.

The legal blood draw procedure has entered our community’s lexicon in a way most have been confused by and unable to describe. To exemplify this, I will share the story of one of our church members who received a DUI and faced a blood draw.

One of our beloved members was driving home from work one day when he hit another vehicle. Our member called the police and explained that he had been drinking, but that his alcohol level should not have been elevated like the driver of the other vehicle was saying it was. The police officer performed sobriety tests on our member and concluded that he was under the influence of alcohol to the degree that it warranted arrest. Our member knew that this was not right, but he could hardly argue with the police officer’s suspicions once handcuffed. Our member agreed to allow the officer to draw a small amount of blood to test for alcohol.

Ultimately, our member was found not guilty and the charges were dropped, but it was a long and unsure road to get there. In order to better support those facing a legal encounter like this, our community should be more informed about what exactly a legal blood draw is and how it works. Understanding this process can save members of our community time, headaches, and money. It also reinforces our values of clarity and communal support.

What is a legal blood draw procedure and how does it work?

If you are suspected of driving while impaired, the police officer may ask you to let them draw your blood to test for alcohol levels. This procedure is a legal blood draw, and it is a lot more complicated than it may seem. It is important to understand your rights and the potential outcomes of a comprehensive legal blood draw process. Furthermore, knowing how the process works can help individuals to better act lawfully in the situation.

That said, if you must undergo a legal blood draw procedure, it typically involves the following steps:

  • If you are unsure about your rights during a legal blood draw procedure, it is important to talk with someone who might know more about this. Members of the Prattville Community Church leadership team would be glad to have a one-on-one conversation about your legal blood draw procedure.

We care deeply about keeping everyone here in Prattville informed about the law, so we welcome feedback and suggestions about topics that would be meaningful for our community. We also encourage all of our members to share this knowledge in the community.

What happens after the legal blood draw procedure?

Once the legal blood draw procedure is complete, the officers will likely take you in for processing. You will be fingerprinted and photographed. Charges will be filed and if you wish legal representation, you will want to contact a lawyer.
